Bharatanatyam Exponent • Choreographer • Mentor
Guru Upashana Mahanta Gogoi (previously known as Upasana Mahanta) is a distinguished Bharatanatyam exponent, choreographer, and mentor based in Guwahati, Assam. Born to Binay Krishna Mahanta and Jayasree Mahanta, she began her artistic journey at the tender age of three.
Her training spans prestigious lineages — from Sattriya under Guru Hiranya Kumar Mahanta and Nritya Churamoni Guru Ananda Mohan Bhagabati, to Bharatanatyam under legendary Padmashree Guru Pushpa Bhuyan and Guru Arkadev Bhattacharyya.
She further refined her art at Kalakshetra under Vice Principal C.K. Balagopal, holding a B.Music (1st Class) from Bhatkhande Vidyapeeth and a Bhaskar (Post Graduation) from Pracheen Kala Kendra.
Dance is a sacred Sadhana — a divine bridge between the Jivatma and the Paramatma. Every mudra is a prayer, every movement a story of the gods.
To propagate the authentic Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam in the Northeast and instill Indian classical values through disciplined training.
To nurture culturally rooted dancers who perform on global stages while preserving the sanctity of the Guru–Shishya Parampara.
